Resting an elbow on my kitchen table
I decide that I’m bored of this familiar scene
Have you ever been to my house?
I spend most of my time in here
I’ve never been to your house
If you’d invite me over one of these afternoons
I’d have a look around
I’d sit with you on the couch
I’d take in the surroundings you’re used to
Still, I wouldn’t know what it’s like to live in it
I bet you have a drawer somewhere
Full of items you didn’t know what to do with
Dead batteries you’ve been meaning to recycle somewhere
A ball pen that doesn’t work
Old receipts, elastic bands, a broken paper clip
Maybe deep down you still have hopes
Those trinkets will come in handy somehow
Yet idly they sit
In that limbo of a drawer
You just never get around to using them
You never get around to throwing them away
