Hi everyone. I’ve been feeling this way for years but I’ve been pushing it down. I’ve hated the way I look and everyone always says I’m so beautiful and all this stuff. I don’t believe a minute of it. Every couple years, someone asks me if I’m a boy or have been one. I’ve been a woman all my life but I’ve never really felt like one. My parents force me to be feminine and I hate it. I hate my dresses and makeup my friends and family keep giving me. I want to be seen as a more masculine person without them thinking I’m a lesbian or something. I want to be a new person but it’s so hard when you’re chained to friendships. Please tell me what this feeling is of wanting to be the opposite gender. I can’t find an answer.

Don't think much of it. Just because you are different than the group of girls you hang out with who are "girly" doesn't mean you are different than all girls because in the end what you describe is a stereotype and there are many females who are not into that stuff and have other interests which doesn't make them any less feminine. It's okay to not feel like you meet the stereotypes because they're an overgeneralisation anyway. Again, don't think much of it and don't feel you need to label yourself anything. Try to hang out with girls that are more like you and about your parents... maybe talk to them for example tell them you don't like these clothes and like a different style. I don't know you or your parent's so I can't say much. Maybe you are a bit young and your parents are strict on your clothing which is common for many, most end up dressing more like themselves as they get older and have more freedom. Good luck.
