The Last Thing

If this is the last thing I write

If this is the last thing I hold tight

I ask you to not remember it as the last

But as the best

Though it may not be the best thing I have wrote

I believe you will cherish this note

More or less

For fame is the last thing on my mind

And watching the clock is a waste of time

So I wish for my arms to extend across the land and waters

And to bless all the children, sons, and daughters

For they are the first and foremost thing of our Earth

And this is the last thing left of me

- A heart waiting to be free

This was the last thing my darling wrote me
