I am so confused about what to do. I recently gave the exam for engineering but i am not really passionate about it. I only thought of it because of the decent salary. If i really could do what i wanted to, i would have studied fine arts but i would have been such a disappointment to my family. Also, my cousins are engineering so comparisons are always being made. Yesterday my brother failed to get into a tution class due to his carelessness and my mother still isn't talking to him and comparing him to the less "well off" cousins who succeeded. I'm scared that if i failed to make it to "their dream college" they'll be hugely disappointed in me.

Hello :)
I am going through the same situation, just a different career field. I can totally understand what you are going through right now.
What I say is choose your dream career and make your parents understand your love for the career you choose. They'll might take time but I think they will eventually understand you. And what if all your cousins are in engineering as well? It might be a right fiel for them but that doesn't make engineering right for you. Choose what you love. Being different is good.
I know this will take a lot of bravery but think about what your life will be in the future. It will be according to your dreams and passions and not your parents or some cousins.
You have the right to change your future at any given point of life. Make a decision. Make your parents understand.
Do it. All you need is 20 seconds of EPIC bravery :)
ReplyI am not from a very well off family. My parents have invested their every penny on me and my brother. They have already spent a lot for me to get into a good engineering college. And if i told them that i did not want to do engineering at this point of time, they will be disappointed as well as ashamed of me. I don't want them to spend more money on me. I'm afraid my mother is a very sensitive woman. She'll go nuts. (I wrote the post)

ReplyI feel like I've written this post because I am going through the same kind of predicament. I want to be an animator but have been studying engineering for 3 years now. I wanted to study engineering because I was a science student and am quite good at maths but not a genius. Also because I wanted to show off my degree, stupid reason I know. But I haven't given up because my mom wants me to be an engineering and being a girl I can never give up. I have to prove to the world that I'm not weak. Anyways coming back to your problem if you really like fine arts then go for it. But also I would say if you think you can study engineering then apply for it for knowledge is never a waste of time or a waste of money. The more you learn the better you'll be. That's what I am doing right now. Don't know how much I'll succeed but an engineering degree would fulfil my parents' dream and also it will give me a lot of opportunities even though I'm not passionate about it and it's giving me a hard time. After I am done with this I am planning to get a degree in animation. So I'll have knowledge in both engineering and animation. And who know my know knowledge for engineering could help me in animation.
ReplyI can relate to you. At times i feel i should just "go with the flow" because that's what most people here do they. First they became doctors/ engineers/ lawyers and then follow their passion. I guess that's my fate after all. Also, ensures me good placements and traveling (which i love the most). But at the moment I feel miserable, I guess it will pass with time.
ReplyThe most important thing is to believe in yourself. If you believe that you can do it then nobody can stop you. Do what makes you happy 😊 . If you can't do it now then do it later on. And whatever you are doing right now try to learn as much as you can from it and use it to your advantage in the future. Good luck!!
ReplyThankyou so much. :)
