Any suggestion on how to deal with lockdown? We had the first lockdown in March, but this time it is 1000 times worse. I was fine in March but now...I can´t handle it... There are several thousand ill daily and also hundreds of dead... I am home since 19th December and I feel like in a cage...I have probably PMS those days but...still. I feel like my mental health is getting worse and it affects my physical health too.
My goal was to rewrite my whole dissertation by the end of the year - you know what happened...not even half of the thesis is rewritten. I must mention my dissertation is about the Jewish community and the holocaust - so you can imagine my situation - death everywhere around me. I feel like I am drowning. And also the weather - is cold, gloomy and no sunshine.

Self doubt
Trying to choose a major, I feel lost and a little hopeless, and I don’t feel capable or self assured. These haven’t been helpful things for me to feel, the...
I totally feel you especially about writing your dissertation. Writing a paper can be very stressful and it is worse during this pandemic. Well, it's not just you and me but there are people all around the world who are facing the same problem. It was the same for me. By the end of 2020, my social anxiety reached its peak after not meeting any other humans except for the ones whom I live with (my family). So, I suggest you to keep in touch with your friends and your loved ones, share pictures, memes or funny videos that you come across on youtube. I spend a lot of time watching movies and series on netflix. So, you can try watching anything that you like. Although I am sure everyone else does this too. Never miss your meals, try to get a good sleep for 7 hours minimum. Try not to stress too much about completing your paper but try not be too carefree at the same time. Time management is something that everyone needs to learn. Just try to invest at least few hours of your day in developing ideas for your dissertation. We often tend to stop working when we stress to much about something and then it starts stressing you when you realize you haven't start your work at all. I don't know if this is gonna help but try taking up a new hobby like painting for instance. And if you get bored with that, try coming up with something new. You may even start by cleaning your room. I feel a lot better and my mind starts working after I have cleaned my space thoroughly. I hope this helps you. Just remember that our physical and mental health!!!
Replygreat advices, thank you...I have a box with big bottles of tempera colors I bought them about a year ago, but I did not have time to use them...maybe I should start now during the lockdown :-) yes, cleaning the room is great too :-) with self-care is a little bit harder now...when I do not feel good
ReplyI'm glad you found my comment helpful. I would love to see your painting when you do.
P.S sorry I keep making typos! :)
ReplyRemember that to take care of both your physical and mental health!!!!
ReplyThis year has been emotionally exhausting for everyone, especially for yourself with the underlying stress of uni...
Regarding uni, speak to whoever is your one on one for your dissertation and explain how your struggling with motivation etc, chances are theyre goingnto be lenient towards you. And hopefully be able to heed you in thr right direction.
In terms of everything else look after yourself as much as possible. Drink a cold glass of water when you wake up.
Have a shower, wash your hair, and just stand there and let the water consume you for a minute, play some music too!!!
Afterwards, make yourself feel good, dress yourself up in something that makes you feel confident. Go for a walk (if you can), if not open all the windows, ignore the cold for a moment, less the air go through your home, breathe it in deeply!
Then do something you enjoy, watch a film, read a book, make/draw something, phone a friend. Before you know It the day will be coming to an end.
Following day start it off the same, but spice it up a little, start to make yourself a weekly routine. Maybe Monday yiur hobby is reading, Tuesday you work on your dissertation, Wednesday you watch a film, Thursday dissertation, Friday friends. Saturday tidy something (even something small like one draw) Sunday choose what makes you feel good!
I hope this somewhat helps!!!
I've been trying to follow a routine and it makes time seem a little bit more valuable !!
