Trigger warning. If you are LGBTQ or trans you may not like what I will write here.
So I just got kicked out of a group chat for making a controversial statement that someone probably thought was bigoted, even though that is far from the truth. I'm a live-let-live kind of guy. I'm somewhere between a conservative and a libertarian, and I could care less if someone is LGBTQ or trans, you do you. Do whatever the hell you want, and be happy.
With that said, I was talking about the deplatforming of Gina Carano, and the moderator told me "don't downplay the actions of Gina Carano." At which I did a double-take. Gina Carano, as far as I was aware, did not commit any "actions," she merely had controversial opinions and tweets. So I said as much. The mod replied with something along the lines of "well she propounded Q-adjacent theories (🤨) and transphobia." To which I replied "I don't really know a whole lot about Gina Carano, but I don't think that you are using the word "phobia" correctly. A "phobia" is a mental disorder, an extremely debilitating intense fear that interferes with daily living."
For this I was banned from the group....
Words matter. Definitions matter. If we cannot even stand up for the definitions of words, do people care about freedom of speech? If society cannot have intelligent conversations about controversial things without resorting to censorship, then society will just get dumber and dumber and more and more narrow-minded.
Yes, I know what people mean when they say "transphobia." They mean "bigoted against trans people." I know that. But truth still matters, and the truth is, that "transphobia" is not a phobia at all. It's bigotry, but saying transphobia is a cool-sounding word so the media likes it more. And for this I was banned?!?! From a chat I had been on for YEARS. Semantics discussions are problematic?!?! What is WRONG with people?!?!

Author, continued: I am frustrated, unnerved, scared, and upset that these things seem to happen to me just because I voice my own opinions. This is the 2nd chat I've been kicked off of, for really dumb reasons. I'm no bigot. I'm no "transphobe" or whatever the newest slang is. It's scary that people can just shut me up like this, and it gives me anxiety that so few people online seem to agree with me. I've spent most of my life keeping my opinions to myself. Now I start saying what I think and I get ostracized from online communities.
People think censorship is no big deal. People think they can just shut people up as if people they disagree with aren't human beings with lives and feelings.
Censorship IS a big deal! Censorship is a form of public shaming! Censorship is ostracization and stigmatization! The liberals and leftwingers used to be AGAINST public shaming, now they're FOR it against people they disagree with?!
When did American society start shaming those they disagree with.....
WE ARE ALL AMERICANS AND WE ARE ALL HUMAN. It doesn't matter what freaken color you are, it doesn't matter who you voted for, it doesn't matter what you believe in! It doesn't matter if you are a Q believer, or if you are a critical race theorist. We are all Americans, and we are not mortal enemies! It is not a freaken SIN to commit WRONGTHINK. You can believe whatever you want! Just don't hurt people or censor them.
