I do not belong amongst the flowers
Pretty as they are
Dainty as they must
Sweet as can be
Yet not when concerning me
Blessed by a mother in green
I care for us
But them not for we
I do not belong amongst the flowers
It is among the monsters that I dwell
With them, I have danced and eaten their fruit
The savage flow of their bodies sets fire in my heart
My blood responds to the beat
How could I have ever belonged among the flowers?
It is here that I feel most free.
Our movement, so much different from the tulips I’d once known
Our song more passionate than the night breeze
It is among the monsters I’ve found where I belong.
For me, there is no place among the beautiful and prim
I long for the bitter-sweet taste of blood-red juice dripping from my lips
And the darkness that I thrive in,
filled with the love that budded under my deepest roots.
