In the stars lies a girl. She is made of fragments, bits, and pieces of the places she’s been and the things she's seen. She dances from star to star trying to find a piece that is missing. She looks at the stars that surround her, bending and jumping towards them, expecting to find what she is missing.
For she never had this lost piece, she simply can’t accept the fact that she is without it, that she is incomplete. Everyone has this piece, why is she the one without it? She hopelessly travels to each star within her radius, expecting them to be caught up in her. The sway of her hair, the sparkle in her eyes, and the facade that is her smile.
She expects them to be so enraptured with her unusual beauty that they rip a piece from themselves and hand it over with a smile and sweetly whisper “thank you”. The truth is the stars barely notice her presence. She twirls, twists, and leaps, silently begging for them to see her and her anguish. She only seems to muster a breeze that blows the stars further away, leaving only emptiness and stardust behind.
If by a miraculous chance, one of the stars sees her efforts, she lures them forward with her honeyed words, her beautiful lies, and deceptive promises, trying to tear her missing piece from the defenseless star. For she may live among these stars, but she doesn't love them or cherish their light. She simply sees them as a method of completion.
When she finally tangles them in her false beauty, they are so close to this strange girl they see her missing piece. They fight and struggle to free themselves from her grasp, repulsed by the gaping hole they are now bearing witness to in the once beautiful girl in the stars. She claws at them, scratches and marks left by her desperation. As their attempts to free themselves increase, so does the ferocity of the girls clutch on the stars, unable to fail at completing herself once again.
Her arms crack, like acid her tears burn and scar down her once-perfect face. The blood she draws from the stars stain her once gentle hands. The screams that are torn from her once soft and smiling lips echo through the night sky. Despite all her efforts, the stars expel themselves from her perilous and bewitching embrace. Wanting nothing to do with the broken girl in the stars.
She sits in the darkness, no longer illuminated by her latest casualty, and rage stirs deep in her belly. She lets out a never-ending wail towards the moon that stood idle and watched her torment. Destroying any star that attempts to ease her heartache, for they could not bear the annihilating anger and pain her voice carried.
Once her screams have ended, she stands, wipes her dying eyes, and waltzes to the next star. For this time she supposes it will be different. She will find her missing fragment, this broken
