Is feeling a dip in mental health a valid reason to miss 1 day? Is feeling at your breaking point valid? How about the pains of periods that makes you cry? Because yes, i skipped a day of school because of all that, so what? I'm the "goody-two-shoes" of the class, I'd not be caught skipping classes very often and today, i just can't do it, I can't be in a school environment today, my anxiety is through the roof, my uterus is trying to kill me and I feel like an utter mess. And I'm being guilt-tripped about it.
"Oh stop feeling sorry for yourself"
"Everyone has bad days, you just gotta go through them"
"You can't just chicken out of your exams today"
"You're not special, everyone's periods are painful"
If you're someone who says stuff like this, kindly stfu - we all have different braking points, different points at which we say "you know what, i need a break, i don't thijk i can handle this today". Please don't make us feel guilty about simple things like missing a day of school. Because this situation and people's remarks make me feel like I'm doing something wrong. I just need 1 simple day for a break. Yes, i have an exam to do today, but i won't be able to concentrate. Of course I'm nervous but damn, if I'm not feeling good, I'm not feeling good!! My health and wellbeing are more important than an exam surely. I can always do it later in the week.
Anyway, i guess I'm staying home today 🤧

ReplySkipping school is no big deal. You might actually learn something real that way.
ReplyYou’re right, that stuff does suck! Wish we had more of culture to take days off and rest as much as we need. Hoping for your health
ReplyIts hard to not worry about what other people say but the fact that you know whats good for you and you're making the right choices to look after yourself is a great thing. I always have one day of bad pain on my period and I would not be able to sit and do an exam during that. You're the only one who knows what it feels like to be going through what you're going through so if people can't understand that then it's their problem, it doesn't change how you're feeling. You're not wrong and you don't need for them to understand it to be right.
ReplyEveryone skips school. I did it multiple times when I was high school I would cut and go hang out with the seniors at a pizza place. I never cut consistently though. Sometimes at my old job I would call in sick but really I just needed a day for myself. Don't feel bad at all.
ReplyEveryone needs to take a break every now and then. I thrived during online school because I could just be alone and do whatever once I finished class. Heck, I could be crying while doing math and nobody would care. It's not good to skip a lot, but I'd say there's nothing wrong with taking a mental health break.
