This can be quite the controversial question, does giving up mean that you've admitted your defeat? For me, giving up isn't necessarily defeat. How I view it, it is more-so giving into defeat. In my opinion, we don't have to prove ourselves to anybody, in the end, such high expectations will eventually become a burden. Being accepting or content with ourselves doesn't halt us from growing or changing, however, this is still just my viewpoint. Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts about it? Interesting conversation topic.
I guess that would depend on what you're giving up, (or in) to. Because it's not always the same thing.
You could give up on societal expectations of appearance and say "I love me just the way I am."
Or you could give in and say "I'm going to get a nose job like everyone else."
You could give up on a friendship that is pressuring you to do meth (or some other hardcore don't touch it if you know what's good for ya drug) and walk away.
Or you could give in and do what they want.
You could give up on a relationship with a spouse that abuses you, or you could give in and just stick around for more abuse.
In some measure, giving up does constitute acceptance on some level. But so does giving in.
To me, giving up is walking away from something, and giving in is caving to something.
There will be times where its appropriate to give up or give in, but that's strictly a matter of situational circumstance, level of personal fortitude, and moral landscape.
I guess at the end of the day, it just comes down to what we're willing to give. And what we're willing to take.
ReplyThank you for your insight and I absolutely agree. I guess it truly depends how we, ourselves, define "giving up" and "giving in." I'm grateful for the examples you provided and how you respectfully stated your opinion. Sometimes it's just nice to hear what others have to say.♡
