I think the world religions course should be a mandatory course in all schools , as well as studies of other cultures and indigenous peoples history. I know that it has become an option in many schools where I live, but we really need this to be taught to all students. I learned about other faiths and backgrounds, alongside my own from a different perspective in which I had already learned in. Despite me going to a school that has a faith different from my own, learning about other cultures and faith, has brought me closer to my religion. Parents raise their children in their own beliefs which is totally fine, but children must learn about others faiths in order to truly connect them with their own. All religions have a specific aspect that makes them unique, and something in all religions that is overlooked by its followers is the very fact that it is clearly stated in nearly all holy books and scriptures that you cannot force your religions on other people. In the matter of parents raising children to uphold these beliefs, it is their obligation to teach their children good morals and to be good people. This is the purpose of religion, to teach humans to be good. In fact, even if you don’t believe in religion, you still need to be the best person you can be. Just be a good person, teach others to be good people. It is a parents obligation to teach good things and raise respectful children who have the ability to be kind and respectful towards others. In this world, there are people who do bad things and in turn make their entire religion, faith and community look bad. Not all people who claim to follow good morals or follow religion are actually following their faith or beliefs. No religion tells anyone to disrespect others, unfortunately its the people who do.

If that's the case it should be implemented at an early age. It was always left out in teachings when I was in school. Though minimal prayer. All they taught us was "evolution" from monkeys. Which is bogus. Yes religion dies reach morals. The world sure needs more kinder people idc what religion you are. Really it should be partially taught and optional to pursue it further. Idk. If you raise your kids right take them church that also can help shape their character if they're willing not forced to go. I had a cousin forced to go and to a Christian school. He rebelled because his mom and dad were too mean and strict. We knew it'd happen. Everybody has to sow their wild oats first. Most people anyway. But yes people really need more moral character as in the golden rule. Practice it and you can get along with most people if they do too.
ReplyI went to catholic schools where religion was taught but it was only catholic. No other religion at all. How biased.
ReplyYes, it’s kind of hypocritical in a sense as the religion itself tells people to be understanding of others, not enforcing views. The same thing could be said about other religious schools, i took world religions in a catholic school and the textbook we used was labeled, World religions through a catholic perspective which explored different religions with an acknowledgment to their catholic connections/differences . I had also learned the world views/religions course from another religious perspective as well.
