Many of my jokes can fly over people's heads. Why? Because they often require a little thinking, and once mulling over the joke has been done, the punchline is oh so clear.
Like today. I was helping my dad, who will be 61 this October, meaning he was born in 1960, with putting up part of a new trellis for his garden. Being 60, as with most people in that age range, his body doesn't work as well as mine. (I'm 32.)
Anyway, I don't remember my exact wording, but it was something to the effect of, "The 60s aren't quite like the 60s anymore." He chuckled, and we went back to setting everything up. A few minutes later I asked him, "Hey, I realize my joke may have fallen flat..." So I explained it. The joke meant that he's 60, and being that age, and having been born in the 60s, his 60yo body doesn't work as well as his body did in the 60s. Granted, much of my humor derives from him, so I'm thinking he just brushed it off to focus on what we were doing.
I'm too tired to think of any other jokes, but my point is, most of my jokes fall under the categories of irony, sarcasm, obscure reference(s), or some combination; and many of them require a few moments to fully appreciate through consideration of how it all relates.
So if you ever hear my jokes, just think on it, and you'll laugh... hopefully hysterically.
