I'm going to sneak it onto library and bookstore shelves. It will be called, "God is a Jerk, and You Should Probably Hate Him." It will explain to children that if they have rules that the other kids don't, and aren't allowed to do things that other kids can, they have their parents' god to thank for that, and he's an asshole for singling out that kid and making them different. Essentially it will be a book to make kids question why their parents are assholes for following a stupid religion that makes their kid miserable. It will also explain that once they're an adult, they won't have to participate in the religion anymore, and ways that they can avoid church, such as faking a headache, or making themselves puke on a Sunday morning.

Honestly? That's a great idea.
ReplyNot everyone has to be the same. If the kid doesn't follow the religion, don't make them. But also don't encourage them to leave if they don't want to. I was brought up Christian, and so were many of my friends. We were ok with the rules. It made us a little different, but we could still be kids. We had fun. Just because you don't follow something doesn't mean others don't.
ReplyI love this opinion.
Courtesy notice: the following includes a reference to a book that contains writings over 2000 years old which are mostly parables about human nature, both vile human nature as well as moral human nature, parables that are meant to teach us to learn and grow, including the teachings of Christ Jesus. No religion required, and better yet: no public displays of devotion required. Some bullies will label this "trolling", so "change the channel" now if of no interest to you.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
