i have ptsd. and an old friend is reaching out to me.
a few months after my ptsd symptoms began getting worse, i decided to cut off everyone and everything that triggered me, or brought me back to that dark place, or just reminded me of it. a few years later, one of the people I cut off reached out to me again. he's innocent honestly. he was one of my few good true friends.
in the past years, i realized that cutting them off by blocking them was just me running away. I want to try facing it this time. which means i'll stop avoiding them. I just don't know if I should. would it help my ptsd if I stop running away?

Hi. I think maybe this time you could slowly stop avoiding them but take it at your own pace. Try it, if you feel you are doing better then take it slow, if you feel doing it triggers your ptsd then stop, take one step back and focus on your mental health before it goes to the dark place. Dont be too hard on yourself, just talk a step in meaning dont avoid them, since he is a good friend, he might even help u get better so take it slow, tell him you will take it slow and if you go missing then it is your ptsd kicking in. i think you are much more stable now and you can do this. give it a try, but take it slow, if you dont feel good take a step back. fight it, you can do this. i know you can. take it at ur own pace, you know your mind and body. you can do this!
