on my Christian learning class, my teacher told us that its because of god that one is successful. and sure he guides people but she also told us to give god credit. thats not wrong too but to give someone so much credit when you mostly did it all yourself, its your hardwork, your passion, and you tell people that its god that made it happen? other people liked your idea/your work, and thats because of your mind. its kinda hard to explain since english is not my first language but she told us that "when someone praises you, dont let yourself be on the spotlight, give it to god, tell them that its because of god this happened" and i think thats so stupid. i am catholic myself but im not that religous so maybe thats why i find it stupid

Well one needs not praise for doing right. Just knowing that it is ...is enough. That being said..there are some that take credit for what others do....and that is wrong. For myself anyways I would only want credit for what I did...and not take away from anything someone else did...I could not live with that...others do not care I guess because as long as they look good then they are ok with it. I only need to be ok with who I am....and the things I have done....if others need glory...for someone else deeds then that says a lot about them and does not reflect on you. I have no need to be a hero...some do though I guess. I only do what is right because only I have to live with myself and for the most part I am ok with that.
ReplyI've had (and still have) the same questions you pose here. It's one of the biggest issues I have with religion. Yes, glory to God, but God gave us all brains and free will.
An example: George is an intelligent, compassionate new Doctor. He spent many years in school and several years in internships. He has worked incredibly hard to become a Doctor and he deserves to be praised for his accomplishments. So, praise God for giving him the tools to become a good Doctor, and praise George for using those tools and realizing his dream of practicing medicine.
And a real-life scenario that is playing out too frequently these days: Jane refuses to get the COVID vaccine because *insert crap reason here*. Jane also refuses to wear a mask. Jane attends a large gathering with like-minded individuals and contracts COVID. Jane has an underlying medical condition and ends up in the hospital, where over-worked medical staff take the best care of her possible and administer countless treatments and medications, just trying to keep her alive even though she "doesn't trust the science." Jane is able to post things on Facebook still; she's asking for "thoughts and prayers" to keep her off the ventilator. Thankfully, Jane eventually recovers, but instead of thanking the hard-working medical staff for keeping her alive, she praises only God.
Or, alternately, Jane dies from COVID complications due to her underlying conditions, and her family & friends still do not acknowledge the blood, sweat, and tears of the medical staff that worked so hard to keep her alive.
So no, praising God for everything doesn't sit right with me either. I grew up Catholic, so maybe something we were taught growing up contributes to this feeling?
