(The Narrator is an immortal cat with vibrant green eyes)
I opened my eyes,
To a blurry world.
I cried out.
I meowed.
Then I saw it.
Bright, Colorful, Iridescent light.
Oh, how much I long for you!
May I always be within your grasp.
Shine on me.
Let me bask in your golden arms,
Your translucence that transcends the stars,
Give me purpose,
Give me hope,
Don’t leave me.
Live as long as the sun
So I may relish in your river that renders me reposed
Never fade.
But oh..
Cold, Empty, Barren space,
Why did you take my light away?
Like a glass overflowing with hate
Frustration
Emotion
Murderous Intent,
Your cup has spilled over me.
Why do you loathe me?
Why do you make me loathe this life?
Woe is me, to live as long as this,
For if I had gone, the sun would still be there.
Did I chase you away?
Did I somehow wander astray?
Call out to me!
Beseech me!
A hundred years I’ve lived,
And 900 I’ve died,
And all the way through,
I’ve thoroughly tried,
To become receptive of your presence.
I remember the days you were my best friend.
We strode through shrubs
And abundant leafy greens
Past quaint suburban houses
On concrete walls we would lean
And the sunset we would see,
Amidst street poles and trees,
Yes, it would always seem
That this earth was a haven,
And you were its protector.
Then suddenly,
You left me.
Alone.
Only to crave your sweet nectar
Once again,
That taste, so soft
It melted in my mouth.
Like butterflies and lollipops
Like a brand new couch,
Scattering my jet black fur
Across the cloth covered memory foam
As a loving human stroked my back
Pet food in a bowl
House filled with
Seemingly crystallized air
A cozy bed in an old antique chair
Tell me!
Why are you no longer there?!
Do you think this is fair?
The guardian of my sanity
Where are you now?
You leave me in vanity!
Then,
Like a whisper,
She slipped in.
Uninvited, but still welcomed,
And now within
My sight,
My everyday life,
Light,
Is this where you’ve been?
Fluffy, pure, white,
And ginger colored fur,
Deep chocolate eyes,
And I, they did not demur.
You could see happiness in her whiskers
And my voice in her ears,
She was draped in sunlight,
A new dawn in my has life appeared!
We strode through shrubs
And abundant leafy greens
Past quaint suburban houses
On concrete walls we would lean
And the sunrise we would see,
Amidst street poles and trees,
Indeed, it would always seem
That this earth was a haven,
And she was its protector.
And I would protect her,
She protected me too.
The two of us
An inseparable pair.
Nothing more than friends
But we couldn’t live
Without each other there.
Cold, Empty, Barren space,
I regret my decision.
Why did death seem so sweet
When I finally found light again?
Light,
I’m so sorry,
You were always my best friend.
I never acknowledged you
Until the very end.
