I am an aspiring songwriter and singer but lately it feels like I’ve hit a wall. Someone once told me that without inspiration there isn’t anything to write. I have plenty of inspiration right in front of me but I still come up dry every time I try. I do believe I have a gift because I seem to have a way with words and music comes easy to me. I’m happiest when I’m doing music stuff. It feels like I’m most alive when I’m writing. I feel it in every part of my soul and that’s how I want to make others feel too. I put so much pressure on myself to make every song the best song ever, which isn’t realistic. I just want to use my music to help others because I believe I have something. I really need some advice on what to do. Any advice on how to get out of this rut or get out of my head? Does anyone have any stories for some song inspiration because I would love to help bring them to life too. Maybe it will help me find my voice again

Hello fellow musician!
I tend to write for orchestral and classical music, and I often experience "writers block". There is loads you can do to overcome writers block, but sometimes, you just have to be patient with it.
I am writing a new album at the moment ready for release summer 2022 called "The Sunflower Suite", it's about my relationship with my ex, so my main themes are love, heartbreak, memories and hope. "Sunflower" was my nickname for her, and when we broke up last year, I found that I couldn't move on until I started processing my emotions and feelings, and I can't do that without music, hence the new album! At the moment, I have just overcome a very scary and time consuming writers block! Unlike all my other compositions, this one is really important, as it will be the first of my works to be monetised. I never wanted to write music for money, because the process then becomes rushed and forced, which explains why I was stuck. I woke up each day thinking, "How am I going to overcome this?"
First, I tried to shut myself away in the recording studio, where I couldn't be distracted, after failing that, I took a walk and bought a coffee, and used my environments for inspiration as I walked around... That also didn't work, so I tried writing something new and worked on another idea before deciding to come back to the album, usually at this point, I am able to get back to it, but in my case, I could not. So, I took a break, I was on a break for 4 weeks, and when I woke up this morning, the music just came to me! So I've been writing since 04am, and I have now finished the first draft of track No.5, I have 3 tracks left to compose, and soon, I will need to get the instrumentalists into the studio, I am stressed, but I refuse to leave the studio today until the music stops flowing haha.
So,
Limit your distractions,
set yourself deadlines,
take a walk and have a breather,
work on something else and listen to others,
and if all fails - take a well needed break.
It will come back to you eventually, and soon you'll be writing/singing like never before!
Come back to this post and update me when you make progress, I'd love to hear what you have done to overcome this "temporary" block.
Good luck, and happy christmas :)
