My brother is sick, and my mom refuses to get him tested for Covid. I've desperately tried to tell her to get him tested, but she denies, saying he's "strong" and will get better soon. Me and my mom are vaccinated but we still have elders (Grandma, Grandpa) who aren't, and I don't want to take the risk. What should I do? Should I just drop it and hope for the best or should I continue to try and convince her? Is so, what should I say to convince her???

Trouble
So, for a little backstory, I (f) had a crush on this girl. We have a lot in common, but we had never really talked. This year, she and I are friends, we’re i...

I'm emotionally tired
Hey guys. I've been writing here for several months and our family issues are still ongoing. My older brother who left us still has a pride in his heart and wou...
If you’re worried about your brother and your elders I wouldn’t drop the topic, getting tested is important for protecting yourself and their health, whether or not you’re vaccinated. It’s hard to know what to say to convince someone, but maybe try telling her that you’re concerned about your elders and your brother potentially spreading the virus. You could also ask her why she doesn’t want him tested (maybe she’s worried about something?), or if it’s possible, offer to take your brother to get tested. Failing this, you could ring a health advice line in your area / country and request further assistance. In the meantime, try to isolate him (especially from elders) (to a single room with access to a bathroom if possible), get everyone to wear a mask, and limit close contact. I hope he gets well soon and your family stays healthy. Good luck!
ReplyI think you should address this issue to another adult. Maybe seek help from them? Being sick, covid or not is a serious issue which must be fully taken care of.
Nothing is "strong"
ReplyHello, I'm the person who wrote this. Thank you all for the advice. I've yet again tried convincing my mother to get him tested and she replied by telling me if I'm so bothered by it, I should wear a mask. So that's what I did. I asked her why he won't get tested and she changed the subject. Anyways, I used your advice but everyone else refuses to wear a mask except me, so that's a bummer... I can't do some of the other things advised cause of my age and my inability to drive. To the other commenter, there are no other adults I can think to tell except my father who thinks that people should let their bodies fight the sickness instead of using medicines and vaccines. My mom doesn't want to give my brother medicine because "once he throws up and gets some rest, he'll be better." I love my family, I really do, but sometimes they just tire me and it feels like I'm the only sane person in the house who really cares about everyone.
ReplyHey it's ok! If you've tried your best to help your brother and no adult is there to help you, then I think you should just wear a mask and protect yourself. Any sickness / COVID / Omicron is not a joke. I had Covid last year and it wasn't good. I wish you all the best and hope that everything will be good soon <3
