My closest friends hate another friend

So, I kinda get why our past classmates hate Friend A, but Friend A is generally nice to me, so I return that attitude towards Friend A. Friend A has been contacting me recently too, and he has the impression we're kinda bestfriend, and I don't wanna make it awkward so I didn't say anything.

However, I didn't expect my closest friend group to dislike my Friend A. One of their friends made really mean edits of friend A, and my friend group laughed about it.

I guess I just don't know how to feel... I guess I didn't expect my friend group to laugh at others being indirectly mean to friend A. Especially since Friend A came crying to me months ago about how badly the mean treatment is affecting him mentally.

I mean, sure friend A says some toxic things and yes I kinda low-key wanna not keep an active friendship with him, but it's just not in my morals to be making mean edits of people just because you dislike them.

I'm kinda scared if my friend group would do the same to me, but I really like them and they're my closest friends so idk.
