A letter to my future child

Dear Baby,

At this time I don’t yet know who you are. In fact, you are no more than a wish in my heart. I don’t know if you’ll be a boy or girl, or both, or neither. I don’t know if you’ll have blue eyes like mine, or hazel like your dad’s. If you’ll grow up to love sports or music or science or poetry. If you’ll be goofy and outgoing or soft spoken and gentle. All I know is that whoever you turn out to be, you will be absolutely perfect. You will have a mom and dad who support you unconditionally. You will have grandparents that absolutely spoil you. You will have a whole host of aunts and uncles to laugh and play with. Baby, you are already so loved and so wanted… and you don’t even exist yet. I have been praying for you since I was a child. I’m still praying for you now. As I watch my friends have their little ones, as I watch my nieces and nephews (your someday cousins) learn and grow, I wait and I pray. Each pregnancy announcement I see makes me more and more anxious to make my own announcement, to meet you, but still I wait. But oh, my precious baby, when your time comes you will be so celebrated. When I finally find out you’re on your way, you will bring so many people so much joy. Take your time, my sweet baby, but know your mama cannot wait to meet you.
