I’m an extremely introverted person, albeit I am on training to be in the sales department. In which is different to my degree in the science field. I am on my survival mode - smile and speak.
By the name of all the jobs, I think I might collapse. Never have I ever had an intense training in my entire life and I’m failing my written exams, what more if it’s verbal already? Also for the fact that I’m getting jittery and chatty because of anxiety. I’m trying hard to masked it, but I’m afraid that it might slip. I really want to quit, but I’ve already signed a contract. And I’m too broke not to follow it.
Dear Lord, please help and guide me. I’m so lost right now.
Does anyone know what to do in this situation?

OCD or just quirkiness???
I’ve always had a love of numbers, so I guess I never really thought about it. But I’ve realized that I’m always waiting for numbers to be in an order I l...
The pressure you put on yourself is because of preconceived notions. Trust me, I’m an introvert as well. Like if I could avoid talking, I’d walk the other way round the store so I can avoid talking to people and then I hate conflict as well. So yeah, being in sales is pretty much a customer orientated role. But how I cope honestly is two ways:
1. Create a persona that is completely opposite of yourself and what you aspire to be and put it on like a mask when you go to work. When people are being asses or you need to do something don’t take it personal rather let the “mask” take the brunt of it. That way it’s not depleting too much of yourself.
2. Set clear boundaries and ask a colleague maybe after work on how to deal with things you’re uncomfortable with or how to talk to someone in a certain situation. Ask maybe to be paired up with someone after your training till you get more comfortable.
Try these methods for work. In terms of school, now this is where you’re gonna have to choose. Do you want to continue working in sales or work in the science thing you’re doing. If it’s the latter, always prioritise your studies and try to do the bare minimum at work. Set up schedules so that you can divvy your time up well. While I was studying full time I was working two jobs that equated for me being full time worker as well. The way I got through it is asking my tutors if I could see coursework earlier, read the blurb and highlights of any readings and reserve some time to both listen to the video recordings and make notes. If I feel like I’m giving up, I always have that one goal that keeps me going and a time line I set it to. Like for example “I’m only going to go hard for 1 month and then I’m quitting my job” or something like that. Just to keep you motivated.
For the anxiety…
Honestly taking a walk. I know it sounds dumb and really cliche but taking a walk always had helped me and if you can’t take your mind off wasting time, listen to anything audio related to your studies. Drink a lot and MAKE SURE to set time to hang out with friends even if it’s just an hour. Literally will help get some of that jittery energy. And don’t screw up your sleep patterns. Stick to 4-8hrs sleep. It’s hard but try to.
ReplyThank you, this is a really nice response and I appreciate it a lot. I’m done with my studies though, but I’ll keep that in mind in case I might do my masters. The sales work that I’ve gotten also includes science on it, albeit a different one than my one and it’s more complex for me to comprehend. Not to say the time allotted to learn everything is too short, hence my apprehension with the matter at hand. I’m still on my training and I might do a removal on my exam to pass sales. For now, I’ll just make do with either passing it or failing it. Again, thank you kindhearted human being. I hope you find what you like and you’re happy.
PS: I like to walk a lot, so it’s not dumb at all. It does make me calm when I do it. Hopefully, I’ll have more time in the future to have a walk.
