Hey guys! In honor of my little brother having his OAP district contest today, and myself being in a community performance of Heathers: The Musical, I was thinking about pre/post show and BTS traditions we have/ have had in previous shows.
One thing we’ve done before every show is company circle. Cast, crew, and pit will stand in a circle holding hands and say everything we hope goes well, maybe it was something we or someone struggled with in practice that week. The director would give us a pep talk and then we’d come up with a goofy chant or a line from the show and yell it, then we’d assume positions and start the show. My favorite was when we did a moon Over Buffalo and we got to yell “Flibbergibbet!”
Now during Heathers, before every show, our ‘Kurt’ will kiss everyone either on the forehead or the cheek. Someone in cast or crew brings a snack for us, and then we hold hands and yell “Hey Yo Westerberg!” During the show, me (playing JD) and our “Heather Mac” will pretend to whip a steering wheel when Kurt and Ram say “now you got a body like a Maserati.” the girl who plays our ‘Veronica’ and I have a hand shake we do before every show and at every curtain call.
Feel free to leave any traditions your company has down below!”

ReplyWe have a whole host of traditions! we start with family meal, where the parents would give us homemade dinners on busy show nights as we were getting ready and putting people into hair/makeup/costume. Then we would go into circle in our courtyard and do songs like John Jacob jingleheimer Schmidt and fun things like that. At the end, our teacher comes out and focuses us, and we all hld hands and he sends a hand-squeezing pulse around the circle. when someone gets their hand squeezed at the same time, they yell out. After that, the seniors would lead us to he bathrooms and we would turnt he lights off (with everyone in there) and sing a chant. the girls chant is "fuck the men, we don't need them, we get more bitches and we're better at stem". then each group like costumes and the actors would have their own circle together to focus each other.
