Beware, Of Pride, Envy, Wrath, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, and Sloth. Why? Well, None of those are really desirable are they? Even If your not religious person, all of that seems worthy of avoiding right? How can something good, become bad? Perhaps a good thing tainted with any of the above leads down a path that results in pain and suffering. How Do you Stop Needless Suffering? Tragic suffering is hard enough to swallow. Why do people insist on acting in ways which they know will end painfully for short term gains. Why do hurt people, hurt people. If your hurt, shouldn't you want less suffering, not more? Why do people have to burn everything down? Why does misery love company? Do evil people know they're evil? Or are they more akin to Impulsive beasts at that point.
Have we taken God for granted? So quickly to dispose of the one constant that has followed humanity and civilization throughout all of history? Is God even real? Are You willing to gamble that he isn't? Why take that chance when you could live peacefully, and in a way that would be of benefit, or at least not inconvenience yourself, your family, and everyone else around you? God is good. God Is the word. God Is Truth. What does that even mean?
Is the word a tool? Or a weapon? What Makes it a tool? What Makes it a weapon? How do you use it? Does your word speak truth? Does your word speak falsehoods, or vague expression of willful blindness. A coward is willfully blind. Are you a coward? Would you rather be seduced by convenient comfortable lies or face the harsh, bitter, realities of Truth, and yet still rise above them in transcendent manner? What would someone you admire do? Who should you admire? Why?

ReplyPerspectives. And we don’t know the reality of any of that. God does. God is the judge. Men are merely weak blind powerless teachers without God.

ReplyThis post seems very accusatory. "Do evil people know they're evil? Or are they more akin to Impulsive beasts at that point." You know, Jesus said "no man is good" and that He did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
I think this parable is relevant pertaining to this post:
"Two men went into the temple to pray. One was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood over by himself and prayed, “God, I thank you that I am not greedy, dishonest, and unfaithful in marriage like other people. And I am really glad that I am not like that tax collector over there. I go without eating for two days a week, and I give you one tenth of all I earn.” The tax collector stood off at a distance and did not think he was good enough even to look up toward heaven. He was so sorry for what he had done that he pounded his chest and prayed, “God, have pity on me! I am such a sinner.” Then Jesus said, “When the two men went home, it was the tax collector and not the Pharisee who was pleasing to God. If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.”
Nobody would like the same accusations hurled at them with the implications of this post - are you a coward? Are you a sinner? Are you evil? Honestly, the answer is all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
Maybe a better set of questions would be: are you sick, in need a physician, for a broken soul, a broken heart, a broken life - one full of shame and fallness, when you know that your Lord created you to be so much more, even a victorious overcomer in His image? The Lord did not seem to stand over the adulterous woman enumerating her adulteries; just His presence was probably enough to make them feel ashamed of their sins. Rather it seems He helped them, and healed them.
Sadly I don't even know where this statement is coming from: "Why take that chance when you could live peacefully, and in a way that would be of benefit, or at least not inconvenience yourself, your family, and everyone else around you?" Following God does not mean your life will often become "more convenient", only, hopefully, that you will be redeemed from the perishing of the world, and that you would become more holy and acceptable to the Lord. This process probably would involve a lot of inconvenience, pain, and persecution - as it says that all who even want to be godly will experience persecution. It's true that we are supposed to endeavor to be peaceful with all people, but, nevertheless, offenses will come.
In the end I think I only know the answer to one of your questions: who should you admire, and why? And that would be the Lord, Christ, the Son of God incarnate, because He is our example and our Life, and without Him, we would be in hell, which is an eternal separation from Him. I don't know much about what they would do; probably through prayer and Bible reading, it becomes apparent to some. Those people wind up in God's will. I would imagine someone would follow Christ for various reasons: I guess at a basic level, it would be eternal life preservation. But at a better-motivation level, it would probably be, out of love and gratitude, and worship for not only the sacrifice that He made for us, but also seeing in His love and example, the most desirable way a person can be, even in a fallen and degenerate world. It is so easy to SAY that, and I am not saying that I have achieved that perfection, but, at least I can recognize what the goal is.
Sadly, I've not gotten any farther than that myself. Perhaps, sadly, even I have regressed since coming to this awareness more fully.
But, at least, if it helps someone else, I can easily clarify that difficult question, should it be difficult for someone, at this time, besides me.
