I started experimenting with sunhats this summer. I think they are so feminine and pretty. They tie an outfit together, especially when ladies are in dresses. My husband has never been a fan of me wearing hats so when I came home with one, he cringed and told me that it looked stupid and he was embarrassed to be seen with me while I was wearing it. I went to an event a few days ago (without my husband) and decided to wear my hat. Several people complimented my hat (both men and women) and I came home all excited. In a cheeky way, I told my husband about it with a big smile on my face. I giggled and tipped my hat toward him as I told him that people liked my hat. He rolled his eyes and grumbled, "Yeah, well, it's only because they want to fuck you. Hate to break it to you." I got sad and said, "There were ladies, too. They said it looked cute. So you're telling me that everytime someone compliments me, it's only because they see me as a sexual object? And you're also telling me that each time you compliment someone it's because you want to have sex with them and it's not because you're kind? Those compliments were genuine so if that's the case for you, that's a reflection on your character, not theirs." He got defensive (AKA embarrassed) and told me to calm down because it was just a joke (it wasn't and I was calm).
I just wanted to vent. This was a few days ago and I'm still bothered by it. What a jerk. The last generation of toxic masculinity and I get to be married to it. Lucky me. 🙄😑

Why is it
Why is it that every girl goes to school and is mean for no reason, it turns out has been molested? Why go to school and pick on people who are not your abusers...

Basically their attitude was, "Good, good, you pick on that girl for being weird. Verbally abuse her all you like, as long as you don't use any curse words...
At least you gave him a good reply. In the summer here I wore a purple hat with a large brim and a blue scarf tied around it. I would put my hair up at the back, make sure I wore a dress with purple on it and take my dog out. Then one day I saw a neighbour with her hair the same and a hat the same but a different colour on her head taking her son's dog for a walk. It is so annoying to see someone copying. I can't do my own thing.
ReplyCopying is the highest form of flattery. It just means she liked what you did and thought it was cute.
ReplyYou rock your hats girl! Who cares what anybody else thinks. You be you.❤️
ReplyIt obviously wasn't a joke, so he's a liar too. He sounds miserable.
ReplyOMG, do whatever you can to get yourself out of this relationship before it gets worse. It WILL get worse. This is a form of abuse and control. Next he will be telling you that you deserve to be treated like a wh**e because your skirt was just a little too short, you’re showing too much boob, or some other BS. My current, awesome husband knows there is a right way and a wrong way to say you don’t like something. Even then, IDGAF if he likes what I am wearing. I would never ridicule or make him feel that way about what he chooses to wear. He can look elsewhere if he doesn’t like it.
If that isn’t enough encouragement to strut that beautiful sunhat on your beautiful self, here another tip I learned from life…. I was always teased about how I looked in hats, by men and women. (I will admit I look absolutely ridiculous in them) So I never wore them growing up….Wouldn’t you know, I developed a malignant carcinoma on the top of my head where I always parted my hair. (Who would think you need to spray your scalp with sunblock?) I have a bald spot where that cancer was. Now, you will not catch me outdoors without a hat or an umbrella. Sometimes both! ❤️
