There’s no such thing as giving up while you’re still alive. You can put things down and pick them up again, it’s ok.
You don’t have to be ‘useful’ to have worth.
If you’re looking for creative inspiration, find some beauty. Like, idk, those detailed pictures of Jupiter (idk, space inspires me). You don’t have to jump into action yet, just find some various stimuli to start the cogs turning :)
ReplyBeing useful to society is such a difficult goal to define.
It's also not something that I think anyone can embody 24/7. Society needs lots of different people playing different roles at different times. We are all workers, helpers, patrons, consumers, srevice users and general community members at various times.

Am I being useful to society when I pay to see a gig at a small local venue?
Am I being useful to society when I respond to posts like this one and try to be encouraging?

I worry that you're never going to feel Useful enough, because you've become convinced that your default status is "Useless", and you therefore need to be constantly doing stuff to prove otherwise.
I think you'd enjoy all of life's experiences a lot more if you tried to stop viewing life in terms of your own utility, and just... you know, experienced them. You play a part in society just by existing. Now try to find something that involves having fun with other people, and you'll already have contributed to the net happiness of others.
If you need a source of inspiration, how about supporting some of your local museums or free art venues, by simply visiting them? You are literally their raison d'etre - they rely on participation. I bet you'll meet people with ideas and in need of someone to help bring them to reality if you hang out within the Humanities sector for long enough.
