Kok so here's the story. I'm an asian and will be turning 17 next month. i only have days until my last year of high school will start and honestly I AM NOT READY.
this school year would go faster than what we imagine just like what happened last school year. my problem is that up until now, it is still not clear to me what i will pursue in college. since this s.y will be my last before entering college, we will be busy and will not have enough time to think about this anymore. so as soon as possible, i need atleast know what i want to pursue and what are my possible choices.
i am very interested in almost everything like i do arts, i like arts. i sing and more. so it is very difficult for me to make a decision on what to take.
there are also other factors that is holding me back on making decisions. one of that is our financial capacity. i don't think we can handle the expenses.
my first choice is taking fine arts. but hearing the opinions of my fam, they said getting a job after graduating on fine arts will not be easy. there are not lots of jobs that is associated with fine arts.
second choice is architecture, i liked architecture before entering senior but now, i lost interest in doing so. the possibility is not high.
third choice would be nursing. fam members are in the field of nursing and medtechs, they also said that the salary is high esp if we work at foreign countries. im just worried about school expenses and other things. nursing course is indeed expensive as you need many things. im also scared of bloods and cannot tolerate seeing people in any kind of pain. it is really not my thing.
i have less than 11 months to think about this and i really need to think about it carefully for my decision here will be my path to my future.
please send advice and lots of consideration.

Avoid fine arts since finding a job is difficult. Pursue any STEM field. Don't waste money on a 4 years college degree that could have otherwise benefited you more.
Avoid music, fine arts, general studies, or things of that sort. You'll waste an incredible amount of money only to struggle with finances and job employment in the long run.
Nursing, rehabilitation sciences, healthcare, IT Tech, any STEM field you're interested in is a better choice. You'll gain more respect too, you'll learn a lot of interesting and practical skills, and most of all, it will boost your self-esteem.
You can also opt to be a part time student and a full time worker to pay off the STEM degree you select.
I'm 19 and Asian too. I'm a dual student of DPT (Physical Therapy) and also of B. S Psychology. I plan on doing both mental and physical rehabilitation and get my masters in the future. That's just to give you an idea. :)
If you're not interested in STEM then don't force yourself, but it's just something I highly advice. Get a degree in something that will give you a job in something that requires that degree... And that it's not optional.
Music... Art... Things like that will push you to work independent and earn money in local areas... Or be a teacher at most.
It's less stable and earns less too, less job findings and less demand.
Personally I'd say nursing and architecture is better.
Your life, your choice though. That's just my two cents.
ReplyYou can also start watching documentaries about different things... Environmental/Marine Sciences, Power Supplies, Crime and Law, Healthcare, Social work (I don't recommend social work because it earns way too less) or respiratory therapy, audiology, radiology, IT Tech, google it up.
ReplyHave you thought about what you REALLY want?
The COVID-19 pandemic and your experiences should help you find the best fit for you. It has affected numerous industries and professions. People are retooling themselves and harnessing new skills to survive and earn a living.
Know what you want, why you want it, and how you are going to get it.
At the end of the day, it's your time and your life to live. When you do decide on your college course.... commit, endure and thrive no matter what.
I am an architect by profession, and have been practicing various facets of my profession for more than 20 yrs now.
Stay the course.
I hope this helps.
All the best to you.
ReplyDon't be afraid to try. Try different things. Start with the things you like first, then go though the things you never thought or tried. You will never know what you're really into unless you try. Maybe you will find something more enjoyable than your opinions. Even if you pick a major, remember you can always change it. Don't think about the money that you may earn after. If you do something you like, eventually you will find money. It is your life, take your own choices. You may fail, but don't let it stop you. We are all humans after all, everyone makes mistakes.
