Just happy animal thoughts.
I love my cat. I rescued her through a local foster agency when she was 8 weeks old. She and her litter mates were found under a truck on an oil field pad. The mother hadn't come back for three days and the workers were worried so they called a rescue. The kitties were fostered.
She's now 3 years old and I'm so happy that she's found a loving home with me. I love the connection we've built. She looks at me and I know exactly what she needs. She wants to project the image of rebellion but never goes far when I let her out. She'll act all tough when I let her outside. Her language says, "I come from the streets! I don't need you!" and she'll look at me with her tail in the air before running off into the bushes. Then, she'll act like she's running off for good but secretly, she sits on the top of the fence and watches me from the trees. I'll call for her and she'll ignore me on purpose, typical cat style. When I don't play along, she'll jump down with a little "purrrrrr" and approach the water dish I leave out for her. I know she's asking for fresh water so I'll refill it with the hose. She'll wait until I'm done spraying. She'll take a long lick and then look at me.
"Thanks, servant!" she says smugly.
And then she washes her face and hips back on the fence. I call her name. I compliment the color of her fur. I tell her how pretty she is. She acts disgusted until it's time to come inside for the night. She always waits a liiiiiittle longer that she should when I call her in. She does this to let me know she's in charge. I give her another 5 minutes before I call her again. I pretend like I can't see her in the dark. I let her hide behind the shrubs like she's blending in. I act like I'm going to lock her out. When I close the door, she runs to the porch. I let her wait a minute before letting her in. I let her know that I'm also in charge. When I finally open the door, she runs straight to her food bowl to make sure it's filled. If it's not, she meows loudly to beckon my service. I leave her so she can eat safely in peace. She takes a few bites then searches for me. When she's satisfied with the quality of her resources, she seeks me out and climbs into my lap. She makes biscuits with her cute little paws while I pat her booty and tell her how cute she is. She tries to tell me she's tough, not cute. But the way she looks at me tells me she's bluffing--I'm her whole world. She settles into my lap and falls asleep.
People claim to hate cats but really, they just don't know the language. Cats are fascinating creatures and deserve the highest respect. They are creatures of the night who have lived a hundred lives even if we assume it's only 9.
