I just got home from the bowling alley. I hadn't been bowling in forever, so I decided to go down, rent a lane, and practice my game for an hour. The lane next to mine was in use by a married couple and their two daughters. One of them appeared to be about fifteen. The other was eleven or maybe twelve, I'm guessing.
Anyway, the two girls were seated when I first arrived at my lane. When it was the older girl's turn to bowl, both she and her sister stood up and walked over to pick up a ball. Then I spotted the reason: the two of them were handcuffed together. I couldn't help but stop to watch this exercise in teamwork while also asking mom and dad how their daughters came to be in this situation. Turns out, they'd been snooping in their older brother's room when they found the cuffs and put them on before realizing the key was nowhere to be found. This had happened last night. The keys are with their brother, who's due back in town tonight. Since they'd gotten into this predicament by being in their bro's room without his permission, their parents had decided to leave them like this until his return to teach them a lesson.
I couldn't help but laugh, even while thinking that was a bit over-the-top in the punishment department. But, as the two girls weren't complaining and actually seemed to be having fun despite their enforced togetherness, I didn't say anything. After all, it's not like anyone else in the bowling alley seemed to have an issue with it.
Do you think I made the right call by keeping my nose out of it? Was that too harsh of a punishment? Or simply creative? I'm curious to hear someone else's opinion on the matter.
