Why can’t I do my homework? I just want to know what’s wrong with me. I lack motivation. And my mom got this “College Essay’s” book. And it has all these college essays from people who went to amazing colleges. And every single one gets compared to my essay. And I need it to stop. Because it’s so demoralizing. Each one she reads to me is like a punch in the gut “why can’t you write like this?” Or “yours is good, but it’s just lacking.” And she says she’s doing it FOR me. She’s not. She’s doing it for her. Because she wants one of her kids to get into a “good” college. And I can’t tell her this because she’ll yell at me, but I don’t want it as much as she does. I just want it to stop. i want all the yelling to stop. All the the comparing to stop. All I want is to get into a college. And I’m so scared.

Your mom's crazy. Don't take her words to heart.
Anyways, you can get into a community college (It has a 100% acceptance rate) and then from there, transfer to a 4-year uni via some program. That's what I did. Or you can apply to a university with a 70-80% acceptance rate if you just wanna get into any university. Or you can just take a look at those essays and self-compare them with yours. Your mom is being harsh on you and she yells which is totally not acceptable. But my advice to you is to use those resources and just do your best in writing your essay. :)
Never set for less. Do your best. Leave the rest up to God. You need both luck and hard work for success.
Let me tell you what I did to give you a general idea.
Straight out of high school, I got into a community college and started working full-time as a cashier at a local mall. Saved some money and joined a program/agreement my community college made with another popular uni. I had to maintain good grades and get above a certain GPA (It doesn't have very high GPA requirements) to get into that uni (Basically a guaranteed admission program as long as you meet the requirements of the uni you wanna transfer to) and now I'm studying Psychology from that uni. :)
You can see if your local community college has a similar deal with another uni if you wanna get into just any university. If not, try your best, apply to all the schools, and if you get accepted, good job! Or you can try what I did since it saves time and money. (Community colleges are very cheap).
ReplyBut other than that, don't underestimate yourself. Settle for the best! To save time and money, guaranteed admission programs/pathway programs should help you (Ask around your CC).
ReplyIf shes trying to be helpful why doesnt she give actual help instead of just making useless comments??? Bruh no one wants criticism of “thats bad.” Cmon your mom should be telling you like “sentence here is unclear..” or “this paragraph can really dazzle the reader by focusing more on…” or “I think transition from this to that is…” like its clear ur mom doesnt kno anything lmao ur mom aint brightest light bulb
