I'm 23 I have a bachelor degree and I'm completing my masters degree. I found a remote job as a talent acquisition manager in an IT company my boss made me do all the work and told me it was just an internship and you are here to learn (he didn't teach me anything I did everything by myself) I asked about my salary many times he changed the topic he added another girl with me (she didn't study the same field but she finished her master's degree ) we do the exact same job he offered to pay her 500-700 in my currency which equals 200$ and offered me 200 which equals 50-70$ saying that it's just an internship and I did nothing which wasn't true when I talked to him about this he started to manipulate me saying he gave me an opportunity to learn and I shouldn't be asking for more . I found it so humuliatong and started arguing with him he told me finish till the end of the month and you'll get paid 50-70$ and then your work is done I told him I wouldn't stay anyways and then he called my colleague started complaining and told her "if she needs money I would give her from my own money " and other BS so I told him I quit today and he just told me okay good luck and didn't pay me at all. I'm sick of work already after what happened š

How do I reject my coworker?
I recently started working a part time job. It's only a few days a week, but one of those days I work with this male colleague. At first he seemed pretty sweet,...
I'm sorry. It sounds like you feel that you were treated very unfairly. Clean up your resume and get out there tomorrow and find a job you care about (and arrange yourself financially so you don't worry too much about money). ā¤ļø
ReplyMiddle aged and I've had several jobs.
These days, it seems it's typical for younger folks to hop from one company to another very regularly. I worked at one place for nearly 12 years, worked at one place for 3, and at my currently employer for 4 years now with no desire to leave anytime soon.
It sucks but, sometimes bosses are just horrible people who get off on a power trip. The one place I mentioned, the one I had been at for 12 years, that's actually why I quit. We got a new boss and he slowly ran everyone off. At some point, there were only two of us in our department left and he told us that we would have to cut out the breaks, take shorter lunches, and work longer hours to keep up. We were salaried employees and already working all the time as, when we got off, we were also on call. I guess you know why I quit.
The other place I mentioned, the one I had been at for 3 years, I was actually let go from that job. I was the manager of our department and we got a new director. This lady was rude, didn't know anything about what we were doing, and seemed to have a strong desire to make everyone miserable. She's one of only two bosses I've ever had that I had words with. She was just too much and I wasn't going to put up with it so stood my ground. I'm in one of the many "Work at Will" states, meaning you can be terminated for literally no reason at all. She was with us for nearly six months when she let me go citing we had different management styles. That was for damn sure. Most everyone else in my department quit soon after that and a VP called them up asking what was happening in our department. When they explained everything, the guy let the rude lady go. She had also hired a friend to replace me and they let her go as well. This was about two months after my departure.
As horrible as all that sounds, I've also had some wonderful bosses. That's one of the reasons I was at the first company for so long and I would have stayed longer if we didn't have that mean man come in. Same could be said for the other job I had; I would have stayed as I loved the company and my team but this mean lady let me go.
Unfortunately, it seems sometimes bad people come into power. In those instances, you're better off moving on if you don't think HR can do something to assist.
We're terribly sorry to hear about your situation but you shouldn't let that cast a shadow of doubt over future positions. It's true, they may come with terrible bosses as well but it's entirely possible that you'll wind up with great bosses who will work with you, support you, help you grow, etc.
Good Luck!
ReplyI apperciate you sharing your experiences with me thank you so much ā¤ā¤ I'm still in the beginning of my career in HRM and started to lose hope after what happened. Sadly in my country the employers take advantage of new graduates my ex boss was really toxic and he lied all the times when I brought up salary he started to deny everything I did he knows I have a great profile and he just wants to manipulate me he even called my colleague and asked her to talk to me after what he said but I just can't bear working with someone who doesn't see my value I hope my future employer would be so much better but still 9 to 5 jobs stresses me a lot I wish I'll be able to start my own business and I'd be a GREAT boss for sure because karma is real.
ReplyIt sounds like you have a great plan and I hope it actually comes to be. In due time, you'll be in charge and, yes, you'll be able to set a good example to others and you will be the boss that others say - "This is a great person to work for." In those instances, I find that employees work harder for those they care for. That said, you'll be great yourself but you'll also have a great team!
Good Luck!
