Tomorrow is International Men's day.
Our office has some really fun and exciting activities tomorrow, only for men, and all of us women are going to conduct it.
Also, all women in our office have decided to dress like men.
Like... Any male character or simply any male like dress-up...
But
I can't.
My parents won't allow me.
They say...
Women should not wear such clothes.
Women should wear only sarees and dresses with dupatta.
Ughh...
I don't object it though... Because I actually don't like to wear t-shirts and shirts, I would prefer long tops or Kurtis over jeans insted.
Of course they have objection over my jeans also.
That's why recently I haven't brought any jeans, and I'm wearing dresses and Kurtis (Everyone calls me Kaki, that's because of my pure cotton Punjabi dress and oiled braided hair, but that's whole different topic for me)
Tomorrow
Whole office will be dressed something funky
And
I would be in my Pure cotton Punjabi suit with oiled braided hair
I don't want that
I also want to wear something, not so funky but at least which goes at least near the dress code
But I can't

Be assertive. Do what YOU want. You can't go through life doing what other people want. What is the point of your brain if you always follow other people's brains and what THEY want?
ReplyThis sort of thing happens when people live in a country that is foreign to their own. They want to stick to their previous culture like their lives depend on it. You are caught between two cultures, and it is hard for you so explain to your parents that you now live in a different country, and you respect their culture but don't want to be part of it and want to be with the culture of this country.
ReplyDo you want to dress up like a man? If not say its because of religious beliefs. No big deal. If you do however that's your choice not your families. Do what's best for you.
Replynice of you women to conduct that event, but there’s no point lol. the males won’t do anything for international womens day other than being misogynistic toward their women co-workers.
and i’m sorry for you. for us south asian women, everything is 10x harder for us. cross dressing is very looked down upon. have you considered maybe going to work dressed normally then changing into male attire later?
ReplyGenders don't own clothes. Wear what you want and to heck with society.
