Something that means something to me

Hi!
I'm an atheist, and have been for 4 or 5 years now. I was raised Catholic and although my family was fairly relaxed about it, my community was very religious. I went to Catholic school all through childhood and adolescence, had my first communion and confirmation, the whole shebang. So, I'm experienced with both sides of it. I struggled with my faith for a while, the fear of an afterlife brought me to a dark place, however I am much happier as I am now, not worrying about what doesn't concern me in terms of fate. Something that I believe strongly in though, is the soul. Maybe we have different definitions for it, but I think it's hard to deny that every human being has a core that makes us...well, human! Call it the human spirit, the conscience, or something religious if you want, I believe I have a soul. The culmination of my experiences, memories, hopes and dreams, fears, ambitions, and moral compass. I don't think a soul is something you can lose or taint. I don't know what you're looking for by asking the question, but that's my honest answer.
ReplyIf you believe in a soul but are an atheist then I presume you no longer believe in a supreme being known by different names across various religions, specifically monotheist religions, which incidentally, practicing religion and having faith are 2 separate things. Thanks for your candid post.
