So I recently started volunteering a certain place once a week for four hours. Now this job requires me to be on my feet the entire four hours, I can’t sit down as there is now place for me to sit. I also can’t stop waking, I have to do consistent rounds across the rooms and check patients. I am 16 for additionally context and I walk about 3000-7000 steps a day on average. However, this is my third week doing that specific job and I’ve averaged 18,000-20,000 steps just for the day I work. for example, this week I worked Wednesday and my watch calculated 19,684 steps. Today, a Friday, I got 5,951 steps. On the days I work I go home with my feet very tired and the following day I have a gym class where I have to run and do exercise for an hour and a half. By this third week my feet have been killing me and walking to class has been difficult. Not only that I also exercise 6x a week in addition to the 2 gym class days, so this might add on to the pain but my feet have never hurt so badly before. I have noticed some hard ridges of skin on my sole and big toe. What should I do? I can’t quit because I have to do a minimum of 60 hours and I signed a document. One last thing is that I am also wearing sketchers shoes to the place that I normally find comfortable.

There's no "T" in Skechers. A common mistake.

5K steps is the equivalent of 2.3 miles and you are adding a significant amount of steps in a 4hr period. That's a pretty drastic increase for one day and rule of thumb for running is to not increase weekly mileage by 10%. Unless you are matching that increase by adding more standing time and increased steps spread throughout the week I'd say you could do a few things.
1. Strengthen your core and lower body with a focus on strengthening those foot muscles.
2. Increase your overall average step count spread out through the week.
3. Find shoes designed for standing all day.
4. Increase your rest periods and eat to recover.
ReplyThis seems like excellent advice posted from another guest; to add, in my humble opinion it is very admirable that you are doing volunteer work. Hang in there, time goes by in a flash and those 60 hours will be over before you know. Best of luck.
Courtesy notice: the following includes a reference to a book that contains writings over 2000 years old which are mostly parables about human nature, both vile human nature as well as moral human nature, parables that are meant to teach us to learn and grow, including the teachings of Christ Jesus. No religion required, and better yet: no public displays of devotion required, although the former and latter are admirable if practiced freely out of one's own free will and without the threat of being beheaded. Some bullies will label this "trolling", so "change the channel" now if of no interest to you.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
Mark 12:28-31
And Christ Jesus said the 2 greatest commandments are:
Love God first and foremost.
Love your fellow-being as you love yourself.
From following or not following these, all good or evil cascades, respectively.
Love...that powerful, invisible force that cannot be denied; even atheists live and die by it.
