There is this huge project that we had to take in class, it is basically under atleast 3 subjects and if we do it right, we might not need to get full marks for the rest of these subjects' activities and assessments. What's more is that it is a film competition that is held by our university, the city museum, and the local government. Everyone is pressured to do their best, I mean... who wouldn't be?
With this in mind the teacher had divided the class into 5 groups after nominating the directors and producers of each team. People nominated who they thought would be the best directors and producers and someone nominated me without asking for my permission. I wasn't even there when they nominated me.
The timeline of this huge film project was under a really small one, not to mention that the major subjects of my school is shooting out assignments here and there without minding the deadlines that are almost always be within the week.
The pressure was so high. People kept assuring me that I was great enough to do it, but I know very well that I don't even have the time for myself these days. But I kept the position, after all, it's not like we can change it.
I really thought that I could do it as well, but... no. The major tasks in major subjects kept being spewed out left and right. I fucking hate it. What's more, the director, won't even try to consider my ideas properly. The camera man doesn't even know how to focus the shot properly.
As someone who really loves making films as her hobby, I know that this is gonna be all around the place. We don't even use the same cameras for each scene. One shot we're using an iPhone the other some other camera.
It becomes even worse when I started reviewing the saved recordings when some shots are missing and some people would upload it really late when I needed it asap. Some shots I suggested to use an extra phone to record the audio incase that it becomes really fuzzy since it's very crowded. I told them that I don't need an iPhone for that, any will do as long as there's backup, but none seemed to care.
It's so fucking frustrating for them to expect me to make some high quality output when the things I need to work on are absolute shit (this is the most polite way i could put it). The fucking shots are blurry and wont even focus on the actress. I asked them to retake it, but they wanted me to work with what I have.
It's so frustrating. I can't even choose the right words for it.
I was even surprised how our film became the second runner up when it's an absolute piece of dogshit. The color grading is great and all, but the shot's fucking focus is not great, there are no transitional shots taken, just one plain angle capturing all of the actors and actresses talking, no actual cinematic scenes to add some sort of beauty, no creative shots...
To make matters even worse, when I ask the director for updates she would left me on read for an hour before responding.
And now she's mad that we're not first place and she's also planning to oust me from the group for apparently being incompetent. And they're also not planning to give me credits so there is that...

Wow! First make sure your not allowing all these “Giant’s “ to bring you down you’d sound like a very intelligent individual and usually those are the ones who are more sensitive to everything, you may feel misunderstood or not seen or heard just invisible a doormat. You see your value and others don’t seem to see that, and it hurts.
I’m not sure how you communicate with your classmates, but I would probably talk to them in a group or sent them a group email expressing some thing like the following. You can even use it if it helps.

Subject: Expression of Concern Regarding Group Project Participation
Dear [ colleagues schoolmates,],
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to address a concern that has been weighing on my mind regarding our recent group project. Throughout the duration of the project, I felt as though I was not given the opportunity to contribute my ideas and skills, which has left me feeling excluded and uninvolved.
I want to emphasize that my intention in bringing up this matter is not to place blame or create conflict within our team. Rather, I believe open and honest communication is crucial for our collective growth and success. It is in this spirit that I would like to share my feelings and concerns, with the hope of finding a resolution that benefits all of us.
I feel that my ideas and skills were not adequately recognized or utilized in our group project. While I understand that collaboration involves various perspectives and approaches, I believe that a well-rounded project can only be achieved by incorporating the contributions of all team members. Regrettably, I felt sidelined and overlooked, which has left me questioning my value and ability to make a meaningful impact.
To illustrate my point, I would like to provide a few specific instances where I felt excluded. [Share specific examples here, highlighting situations where you were not given the opportunity to contribute, voice your ideas, or utilize your skills].
I want to make it clear that I genuinely desire to contribute to the success of our group project. I possess [mention your specific skills, knowledge, or expertise] that I believe could have positively influenced the outcome. By not being given the chance to share my ideas and apply my skills, I feel that the full potential of our project was not realized.
I am reaching out to you all because I value your opinions and perspectives. I would like us to work together in finding a solution that ensures fair opportunities for each team member to contribute their unique abilities. I believe this will result in a more comprehensive and successful project.
With that in mind, I would like to propose that we take the time to discuss and establish a more inclusive approach for our future collaborative endeavors. By setting clearer expectations, distributing tasks and responsibilities more equitably, and actively seeking input from all team members, we can foster an environment that encourages active participation and maximizes the collective talent within our group.
I am eager to hear your thoughts on this matter and to engage in a constructive dialogue. Let us find common ground and work together to create a positive and inclusive group dynamic moving forward.
Thank you for your attention and understanding. I look forward to our discussion and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our group projects in the future.
Sincerely,

ReplyIt sounds like no one has any or very much experience with film making and you all had your own ideas. I wonder did you have a meeting to sort things out first or just rush ahead with it. Anyway, you all did your best and if you do this again be more organized. I suggest having a meeting first to work out who is who and what each person is expected to do.
