Helppp. I have a roommate who refuses to clean after herself. She’s 5 years older than me, I’m 22. She has a hugeeee problem. She would leave the sink piled with her dishes for weeks and not do them. I’ve communicated this is not okay and she replied “ugh I’ve been a terrible roommate” and then never proceeds to clean after herself. I’m talking trash all over the kitchen counters, dishes in both sinks, and rotting fruit on the counter. I feel like I’m being gaslit lol. Is it crossing a boundary to ask for her to clean after herself??? I couldn’t take it so I did her dishes many times since moving in bc it seems she avoids it for some reason. The only time she cleaned after herself was when she had guests over or a man over lollllllll. Wtf do I do???????????

If communicating the issue isn't working and she usually goes to "omg I'm terrible" and right back to the usual... she is gaslighting you. It seems like she knows you'll get around to clean it so she doesn't care. Some people are slobs, start looking/saving for a new living situation. You shouldn't have to live in a dump because she's ok w it. You deserve a spot your comfortable in physically and mentally. You have a right to say something even in a demanding way. It's no longer just her place, you're there and paying bills too.
