I'm a veterinarian and Ive been really sick for about a week. If I was in another profession, I would take time off until feeling better, but its kind of a stigma that you work through it in this profession. Meds like Dayquil and Ibuprofen help me make it through the shift, but when they wear off, I'm back to feeling like crap. I'm afraid that my colleagues see me as weak and/or trying to avoid work when the reality is I just want to recover. I dont want to expose other people to illness either. I really hate this about our profession. (No medical advice please, I have been seeing a Dr)

You're not weak if you have to miss even a day or so. We all get sick at some point with colds and what not. I wouldn't know what the veterinarian life is like but I'm sure there's lots of animals to care for. Do what's best for you. Hopefully your sickness will pass soon.
ReplyI don't see the issue because you are a human. This implies that we are all weak and that even little things can make us feel ill. And if you kept acting in that way, you would soon go forever. Rest up and use common sense
