I miss being a little girl. I miss the times when nothing else mattered other than asking your mom to invite your friends over on a sunny day to go get ice cream and play with dolls. Once middle school starts, everything crumbles and breaks apart. You can still be happy, but you will never get back the kind of happy you were when you were little. Parking yourself in front of the TV to watch shows, flinging yourself out of bed on Christmas morning and running to the tree to tear open all of your presents. Having to draw a picture of you and your sweet family for homework, or having friends you were attached to, and not having to worry about anything happening. Believing in silly little myths and legends was fun. Now, no longer. Asking for toys and candy for you birthday was fun. Now its makeup and hygiene. Now, its crying yourself to sleep. Now, it's over thinking every single miniscule thing. Now its either stopping in front of every mirror or reflective surface to check if you look good, or not being able to look in one at all. Now its worrying if your friends hate you. Now its wondering 'why did I have to grow up so quickly?'

loveless

Hi there, these are all good points. I don’t know if the child is gone forever, but it sure feels like that most days.
One thing I want to point out though, there are still many things to experience which will give you that fresh feeling again. Traveling to another country without your family (maybe with 2 or 3 close friends), that can be a highlight of your life. Getting your 1st apartment all by yourself and decorating it the way you like it, that’ll make you feel like a kid I guarantee. Or there’s always the big one: falling in love. I mean real love, that’s like Christmas morning times 100.
So you’re totally right that we lose our childhood as we age, but we can sometimes reclaim the feeling of being a child, discovering fun new things. No matter what age you are, there are fun things ahead of you still :)
