I am a white member of a multicultural greek sorority. I won't disclose the name. I have been contemplating my existence in the sorority and whether it was right for me to join.
I understand that it is multicultural, but some part of me feels like I'm invading a space not made for me. But everyone is telling me I belong there. I've heard the discourse about white people in NPHC/MGC, and there are many aspects I agree with (Historic recognition/respect, respecting values, service, brother/sisterhood, allyship). Both sides have extremely compelling arguments. I just don't know where I fall.
I am proud of my contributions and journey through this sorority. I am proud to wear my letters. I joined my sorority to learn more about myself and others, and contribute to my community as part of a united front. Not to stroll or wear cute clothes or go to exclusive events. But something deep inside of me says I don't have a right to be there. I don't know what to do.
