I wrote a story once about 5 years ago titled "Carvings" - I think I wrote that for a certain somebody that I was missing for a long time then, it was a rushed writing. I'd come back to visit it every now and then, now I've rewritten it.
It was that one autumn that Candice would come to visit the same tree near the city's park after all this time. It seems the whispers from the past have done enough to convince her to come see her and ask for closure once again. She felt the aging bark of the tree as the orange leaves fell from it. She felt the carvings she once left from before. Carved on the bark, were the letters "C" and "S" - the initials of her and her lover's - She stared at it, as if it was a photo that she took forever to look for. She set her bag beside the tree and sat down.
She could feel tears forming at the corners of her eyes as she relapsed on the times. She felt somebody touch on her shoulders that sent chills down her spine. She didn't flinch, but instead, closed her eyes as she felt the hands on her shoulders give her the sense of comfort and warmth she's longed for, for such a long time. The warmth transferred to her left ear, as a familiar soft voice whispered in "What's all of this?" It was Sam's sweet voice.
Candice could feel her throat dry up from the cold morning breeze but continued to respond, asking if she still remembers the place, where the tree she carved on stood still. "This is where we shared a kiss together." She added.
Without opening her eyes, Candice could feel Sam's smile as she felt a soft and warm pair of lips kissed upon her cheek, "I'm glad you came here. I thought you'd have forgotten." Sam responded, a bit cold at the end. Candice could feel her heart ache as she heard the slight disappointment in Sam's voice. Candice couldn't speak, she continued to sit there, quietly as she enjoyed the breeze that kissed against her skin, her eyes were still closed.
Suddenly Candice felt her warm hands on her cheek, which made Candice open her eyes, to see Sam in front of her. It was the same pair of hazel brown eyes and the most breathtaking smile. Candice wanted to look away, because she felt herself tearing up more and wanted Sam not to see.
Sam wiped the tears on the corners of her eyes, "I remember how shy you were. You were so shy to make the first move." She teased as Candice started to shake. Her face was becoming red as Sam leaned in to kiss her on the nose. "You're as innocent as ever." She added. Candice could feel her chest tighten as she tried to keep a hold on herself, her voice quivered a quiet confession - her love for her, "I love you."
Sam caressed Candice's cheek as she went to kiss her on the lips. Candice closed her eyes as she felt their lips touched, it was a burning, stinging passion that ignited a flame in her chest. The quiet whisper of love echoed in Candice's ears as she felt Sam's arms wrap around her neck. "I'll always be there for you." She whispered.
Candice felt herself being wrapped in a warm cloth, she opened her eyes to the sun's warm rays kissing her gently on the cheek, "You're awake" Sam said as she went over to Candice, now laying on their warm bed. "You fell asleep again, I had to take you back here, silly." Sam added, now pushing away strands of her hair from her face, mesmerized at Candice's half-awake face. Sam leaned in to give her a kiss on the head.
Candice's face lit up and immediately covered herself with the soft fabric. Sam giggled at the reaction, she had known Candice still gets super shy when she gets morning kisses - or perhaps it was the fact she fell asleep and Sam had to carry her. Sam was almost over 6 feet in height and Candice was never difficult for her to carry around, she was perfectly fit for it. "I missed you so much" Candice said to her, she could feel her heart ache from each word she muttered out half-asleep. Sam only smiled as she pet Candice's head, "I missed you too, koala" she responded. Candice jolted awake to hug Sam, tightening it as if it was their last time to see each other. "Please don't go." Candice begged as she weeped on Sam's shoulder.
Sam grabbed her arm, gently wrapped around her, caressing it to comfort her. "We'll see each other again one day, but before I go, won't you crack a smile?" She asked as she looked over Candice that now tightened her grasp on Sam. She shook her head with no response which made Sam sigh, "You know, you'll look older if you don't smile."
"It's hard but you know, you'll be free. I'll be here from afar." Sam added. Candice could feel her gentle kiss on her forehead, it was a bright and warm feeling, blessed upon her skin.
She closed her eyes one last time as she felt Sam's arms wrapped around her, her breath against the back of her neck, their heart beating in sync as they slowly sway and turn to the music she'll never forget that came to play that day. A sweet melody that melted both their hearts into one. It was also quiet and soothing that hushed Candice's crying heart that mourned for years.
