came from my finals to continue 'atonement', one hell of a masterpiece. 'Briory', the main character, was written beautifully, in my opinion. or rather, I find her interesting. It is true that you truly feel the grief of certain people by relating to it. Our main character faces intense fear of confrontation; she was left there to rot with her own misery, which was well deserved. She was scared—scared of her sister's reaction, scared of how her apology would cause more harm than help. Scared, a coward who can't and wouldn't get out of her comfort zone and face reality, take responsibility for her actions. If I push myself away, it'll do them justice, it'll cure whatever resentment they have for her, rather than admitting her wrongdoing. She runs. Her running away isn't causing her only more harm, but those whom she "loved" are left there to wonder, 'Were they not worthy of an apology? clarity perhaps?". She finally realizes the damage that was done by her and only her. She runs again, and again, and again. Why should she stop? Her brain then foolishly proceeds to mend and create a reality of what could've been, what should have been done. The hurt, are long gone and it has then dawned upon her, that time wouldn't wait for her to face her fear. You have robbed the people most dear to your heart of the grace and pureness of apologies. the price? It shall be an undying feeling of remorse, regret, and sorrow that'll eat you whole until it eventually leads to insanity; you have dug your own grave. Why did you run like a coward when you had the opportunity to justify your miserable actions? A rhetorical question that shall be deemed unanswered.
