There is a colleague of mine. I work with her in a project. She is peer in terms of designation but being a senior person in the team, she has been given the responsibility by the manager to ensure others complete the task, including me. In my case what happens is I am a bit slow. Even if i try my best, I am not able to complete as quickly as other team members. Now-a-days, she says that she and the other team member are the only ones who defend me when other people speak badly about me. She also said that people are good to my face but gave bad feedback to the manager. She says this every single day and I feel very bad. Whenever I am not able to deliver a task, she always says people are right about me. I understand my limitations and after joining the organisation for 7 months, my progress is in very slow pace. I admit that results delivered are not better as compared to other team members. But is it correct for someone to convey me this information? Although i don't trust her words fully but a part of me says that could be true due to my guilty conscience. What do I do? Please help. Earlier she used to ask for updates 10 times a day. Now she escalated everything to manager and tells me these lines on people badmouthing me.

People used to do this to me a lot when I first started my position. I kept my head down, ignored them and did my thing. What happened next.. I was promoted and they stayed where they are. People will try to bring you down every day. Unless your manager is saying something to you, ignore the birds. They'll always chirp.
