I’m 46 and today was the first time wearing a purple shirt. How stupid that sounds but I grew up with that stigma and it’s seen as a female color, I must have asked four or five females if it’s acceptable to wear a purple hoodie.
They rolled their eyes, laughed or smirked and said yes. The neurosis, but us guys particularly straight and before 2015, it’s how we are. We always ask it over and over. Why? Outright fear. I know it is but it’s usually Gen Z or gay guys. An observation not any slight towards the latter.
I’m obsessed with the Joker which that color is synonymous with so I figured yeah I gotta get this despite being horrified what people would think. How stupid all this must sound to some women or this younger generation because in some ways you’re much more free.
I walked down the street chewing my cinnamon gum seemingly without a care in the world as always but inside I was smirking but not my usual wiseass way. As expected guys over the age of 30 gave me weird looks and younger people didn’t even care.
In many ways, it sucks being a guy. When it comes to clothes a lot of us just are simplistic with a tee shirt and jeans. That’s me, but the purple hoodie made me feel different. I kind of liked it. Strange to say I know.
In older age, I’m finally not wearing just blue, black or gray. It’s all I used to wear. Always. Now, it’s red, green and incredibly purple. Go bloody figure. It’s bizarre how two colors can completely immaculate a man and leave us severely neurotic and scared.
I I admire this younger generation for making it acceptable to wear one of these colors, a decade or so back, I’d get crucified. How pathetic it all is but it’s sadly true.

I don't understand why people get so offended being compared to the opposite gender. I don't understand why masculinity and feminine are even a thing. I think it's some b.s. that was made up a really long time ago and I think some people go way overboard with it. I'm female and I've always been compared to a guy. It don't bother me. Idk why it would bother anyone. People act like no one's supposed to be unique in their own way.
ReplyPurple is made up of red and blue in the colour spectrum.
ReplyDepends on who you ask. I wear a lot of purple to symbolize the crown chakra. Plus I was always drawn to that color when I was a little girl. It's the color of royalty because way back when purple was a hard color to come by and very expensive so only the wealthy and Royal could afford it.
ReplySome men have the colour blind condition and purple is one colour they have great difficulty in seeing. Is looks blue to them. They try on colour blind glasses which can correct the condition and they can see purple for the first time.
ReplyI am a 39 y/o female, and I like it when men wear unconventional colors. You should feel free to be you and to like what you wear, to be able to express yourself through your clothes. It is true that the standards that make men uncomfortable to do things that aren't traditionally masculine is very harmful, just like the things that have hurt women. And we do the same thing. It's like we police ourselves to be things we think women should be. It sucks. "Don't you know we're not supposed to do that?" We've all been victimized by these old ways of thinking. I'm glad you're taking control and doing what you want to do.
