a heart
glowing ruby red, a beautiful symbol reflecting the act of love
love that’s painful
love that’s poisonous
love that’s mistaken
and love that’s really, love.
hearts are fragile
penetrateable, and easily fooled.
a gunshot
rounded, silver bullets
piercing a heart.
blood seeps out of the hole, dripping down like melted rubies down to the ground
agonizing, tremendous pain.
after the shot, the heart gains its layer of resistance
like any wild animal, the heart adapts to danger
desperate for the next feeling of love, the heart is easily fooled
vines of roses that bloom with beauty, seducing the heart with its heavy scent, seeping through its nose
hidden under silky petals, the shade of melted ruby; lays the prickling thorns that the heart loses its sense to
thorns that squeeze the hearts like metal chains
cuffing the heart in a sense of confusion,
like the sudden shock of trapping a bird in a cage, or a mouse in a trap.
so the heart wraps itself in ties of bandage, wrapping itself in silks of white.
the heart swears, it will never open its arms again.
but no beating heart, can ever resist the temptation of salvation.
a beautiful glass of wine
liquid that looks freshly squeezed from heavens veil, and poured from the misty hands of an angel.
in a moment of desperation, the heart reaches for a chance.
the wine dances with the heart, ribbons of beautiful liquids that flow like dragons
the euphoric feeling returns —
as much as the heart adores this glass of wine, it forgets it’s fragile outer glass.
with one little mistake, a crack forms ; leaking out glorious strips of red wine.
the heart tries with desperate measures, stripping itself of its bandage, the heart covers the cracks.
more begin to appear
slowly, the ribbons of bandage have been dyed a crimson red; and every ounce of wine has been drained from its glass.
the heart has weaved itself in a deep state of regret, sorrow, and confusion. it wasn’t sure what it had done, or what caused the glass to shatter. the heart begun to feel the ribbons..
it realized, the wine was poisonous.
the own bandages the heart uses to patch itself, are now tainted with the regrets that they were supposed to undo.
so the heart begins to rot
like an apple left for too long
an apple infused with poison
an apple with needle holes
and an apple tormented with thorns
the scene goes black
the heart begins to wilt
dripping down like feathery pedals
it fades with no feeling of negativity yet
it seems to fade in acceptance
acceptance and hope
slowly, the rose buds opens
a wispy light that fills the scene
a small feather drifts in sways down to the heart
in silence, the feather; carried by warm wind, paints and prances around the heart. it swirls and grazes, and begins to weave the vivid color of the heart begins to reform.
it is shocked
shocked that a single feather
a soft, white feather
was able to repaint what the heart once was.
in fear, it retracts. afraid that this feather will repaint the gruesome scenes of the past.
the feather drifts closer, gently placing its tip on the heart
a feeling that shocked the heart, a feeling it thought it forgot returned and relit the fire on the candle that was twiddling to blow.
and at last
through every needle, prick and thorn, scorch and burn..
all it took was the soft and kind graze of something small
was enough to reform the heart with whirls of ruby red
a color it thought it once lost.

ReplyThanks for sharing; very inspiring in the hope that romantic love is always around the corner, season after season, for those who are emotionally and physically available. And it usually arrives when we least expect it.
Courtesy notice: the following includes a reference to a book that contains writings over 2000 years old which are mostly parables about human nature, both vile human nature as well as moral human nature, parables that are meant to teach us to learn and grow, including the teachings of Christ Jesus. No religion required, and better yet: no public displays of devotion required, although the former and latter are admirable if practiced freely out of one's own free will and without the threat of being beheaded. Some bullies will label this "trolling", so "change the channel" now if of no interest to you.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
Mark 12:28-31
And Christ Jesus said the 2 greatest commandments are:
Love God first and foremost.
Love your fellow-being as you love yourself.
From following or not following these, all good or evil cascades, respectively.
Love...that powerful, invisible, intangible force that cannot be denied; even atheists live and die by it.
Mary, Mother of Christ, intercede for us with your prayers, now, and always.
