To J
The daisy’s neck was lopsided, the whites of her petals gruff and thinning. It was as though a child was in the process of adding her to a chain, before play time was suddenly over. The child hastily concluded her crown and there was little daisy left to wilt, not even spared an afterthought. I don’t want to pick you, little daisy, because you’d die… but let me spare you the drag, and you’re so pretty anyway.
Is that what you thought when you picked me? I was damaged and you came to speed the process, to cut my stems short. To hold me in your arms while I was already broken so that, if you broke me some more then sprinkled some love, I’d be too focused on catching the crumbs.
Sincerely,
Daisy
