I got 3 weeks out of the acquaintanceship. That's about right. The "delivered" notifications became longer and longer. Minutes turned to hours, hours to days. I stopped playing those games a year ago. Once we hit the "12hr" mark, I clear them from the chat feed so I'm not reminded of the nonsense everytime I check my messages. After that, I stop answering. I suppose you can call that a game but nobody goes 12 hours without checking your phone, especially in your 20s. Nobody is that disciplined. Even the busiest people check their messages every hour or so. I work in a research lab where phone use is restricted and I absolutely check my phone at least 3 times a shift. I may open a message but not reply until I'm able to. But I say least open it and have the courtesy to not leave someone on read, because I know how that feels.
So the time has come to end it. It was beautiful while it lasted but I'm sending him to the Island of Lost Boys. I will never forget his cheekbones. I asked if he was native American and he said no: mostly Italian. So, Mostly Italian, you were beautiful, sweet, and kind but it's time to let you get back to the real world.
I just don't understand how you can go from "I want to take you to the Islands! Come with me on the boat! Let's go to Maryland!" to "Delivered 2d".
Yuck.
