Sometimes I cannot believe I am gonna die... it is hard to accept even. I get this weird feeling in me that I'm this bag of organic stuff that's going to fade down at the end of its life, and I get so paranoid about it. Half the time I'm worrying about it, and the other half I'm just trying to enjoy life. Would it ever be like this if we weren't born at all? I feel like life is so scary. Does anyone know what we've been through? Sometimes I cannot comprehend how such a "hell" can exist. It's a really odd feeling to go through so much and then just dying. I honestly feel, as obvious as it sounds, that none of this would happen if we didn't come alive, and that only then there would be peace. The only purpose of life is to achieve the things in order to fill in the gaps it has.

Replyawareness of our own mortality is the deepest terror a person can feel
ReplySo I’m catholic but something I think about sometimes regarding death that doesn’t require any faith just what we know to be true that can be kind of comforting (at least to me) is this: living things are made out of atoms. When you die, the atoms are still there. Before you were born, the atoms were there. When you eat chicken, the chicken meat isn’t alive, but it’s made from the same atoms that were part of a living chicken. When you digest it your body turns the atoms that were part of the dead chicken meat into living human cells. So it is possible for dead matter to become living matter, otherwise you wouldn’t be here in the first place. And that’s basically reincarnation. If you think about it. No faith required!
ReplyAnd then I guess if you want to take it even further, the cycle of reincarnation will continue until the increasing luminosity of the sun as it converts hydrogen into helium will cause the earths oceans to boil sometime in the next 300 million to 1 billion years. But even after the sun dies, material that escaped the sun’s gravity during its red giant phase will escape into the interstellar medium. The sun will die in about 5 billion years, which coincidentally is about the same time the andromeda galaxy will collide with the Milky Way galaxy which will cause gravitational disturbances in gas and dust clouds in interstellar space which will lead to a rapid increase in new star formation. So even when the sun dies, there will be a rebirth.
