I think my dog just saved our lives.
We were walking. She stops in her tracks. I see the golden retrievers she doesn’t get along with behind us and assume that’s why.
Nope. They walk around us, she doesn’t move.
I think okay a squirrel and talk to this elderly couple outside cleaning the garden for summer.
I look back and her tail is right between her legs, I’d seen this once or twice before.
Suddenly she turns back and trots directly to the house without stoping. She’s usually one to roll around and sniff the neighbours garden.
I let her take the lead and follow behind her.
We get back and the usual routine, take off the harness, take off my shoes, take off the bag, take out my phone, go to the kitchen, get a treat, go upstairs…
She jumps up onto the sofa in my office and stares out the window. I call my mom and give her the story of what just happened because a) it’s really odd behaviour for her and b) I clearly don’t have anything better to do.
I get off the phone put my hand on the mouse and I hear that blaring rhythm of the sirens rushing towards where we were just walking.
One…two….a third? … fourth!
I don’t know what happened. But I think my dog just saved our lives.

What a good dog.
ReplyWowww! That's such a miracle. I don't doubt that animals sense danger long before we do, even things that haven't happened yet. For example it's documented that animals run to safe ground long before earthquakes register on scientific equipment. Anyway whatever the explanation is, give that dog an extra dozen hugs today :)
