Venting about not fitting in with my age group.
My kids are grown but I still look like I'm 25. I workout, eat clean, take care of myself, dress fashionably, and carry myself with happy confidence. I attract folks who are younger than me. I work hard, play hard.
I've fallen into a bit of depression because the man I'm married to enjoys hanging out with people older than us (50+) and I feel like a misfit. They don't talk about anything interesting and are so boring!
Meanwhile, I gravitate toward the 25+ crowd and my personality fits in much better there. I listen to the same music, look the same, feel the same, and have been accepted by them. When we're on boating on the lake, I watch the younger crowd laughing and partying on the rocks. We wave to each other. They call me over and ask if I want a White Claw. They ask questions. They are interested and supportive. The girls compliment my music and the boys smile and wink. The older crowd just sits there in a circle and talks. They talk about their indigestion and grandkids. My husband doesn't want to be a part of the young crowd and I don't want to hang out with the old people. My husband says he can't relate to the young people and feels self conscious around their wash board abs and high energy. I feel self concious around being around receding hair lines and white beards who brag about staying up until 10pm on a Friday. I mean, honestly. BORING!!!!!
I think we've grown apart. I don't know how to compromise.
