Does anyone else ever just wish that people didn't ask them questions? It's not that I want to be completely ignored, but people asking me questions like "What are you doing this summer?" and "How's school going?" just get on my nerves. The worst is "How are you?", because it's so impossibly open-ended. At this point it doesn't even feel genuine, just something we've all been trained to do since childhood since it's considered polite in American culture. I get that some people genuinely want to know, but when it's just some random restaurant worker or a friend of your parents, I just hate it. Yes/no questions are fine, though, and specific questions like "What's your favorite animal?", but these can be awkward for some people when brought up out of the blue. I don't like the open questions because I'm introverted and quiet, and talking to people outside of my small group of family and friends makes me nervous, so half the time I can't even remember what I'm doing this summer or how my day went because I'm just trying to figure out how to talk to this person. Also, especially with the "What are you doing this summer?" question, I literally never know what I'm gonna do unless there's something really big planned. Other than that I just answer with something like "Oh, ya know, just hanging out." Which definitely doesn't help in creating a less awkward conversation.
Anyway, let me know if you feel the same in the comments :)
