There's been some misinformation going around about a scene in the Opening Ceremony that showed drag queens in a position that looked much like the Last Supper. I'm Catholic, so I was surprised, but I looked up what they were actually trying to recreate.
The opening ceremony was mostly Greek god themed, so they were recreating a pagan feast of gods, not Da Vinci's painting. It was a celebration of cheerfulness and fun, not a sacred meal. They were dressed as Dionysus, the Greek god of wine-making, fruitfulness, and ecstasy.
They weren't trying to mock Jesus, they were trying to represent where the Olympics first started.

Tbh I saw forums on the internet where a bunch of self righteous atheists were talking about how they don’t care about “offending Christians.” I’m not anti LGBTQ and I’m not Muslim, but hypothetically, if somebody was making fun of Islam or something, I’d kinda cringe at it myself, personally. But a religion that people don’t practice anymore feels less wrong. Although - since it’s a religion nobody practices anymore, that would explain why nobody got the reference. lol
ReplyNo religions should be mocked whether or not people believe In it or not. I'm agnostic because there's so many religions and branches of it that I find it to be unknown of what's true. I've experienced things in my life where I do believe in the afterlife and I do believe in God. There are a lot of things that tempt the idea that certain things are right and wrong too. I think after years of things that have happened probably are mistaken of the truth. I do think a lot of thi is are mislead because of opinions. I also think the world is ever changing of views of what's right and wrong. It's hard for me to say what's not and what is true. I have experiences Im my life that have guided me to believe what I believe.
ReplyTo be honest, the admission that you don’t know is probably a more honest belief than most people out there, and I can respect that.
ReplyIt was less wrong because it wasn't a sacred moment in Greek mythology, it was a celebration. It was meant to be fun and lighthearted, and many people have recreated it. Because it wasn't as serious as other sacred meals.
ReplyYes, but they should have done it different to the last supper.
ReplyBruh, they DID. The cameraman took a picture at the wrong time. Not every fancy meal it The Last Supper.
ReplyThats what they say. But why does it show a strikingly similar appearance to the last supper painting? Because it WAS INTENTIONAL. Oh and Ishtar? Its got blasphemy written all over it regardless. Christians aren't so easily fooled but think what you will.
ReplyBut they had an already planned out Olympic ceremony. Why would they try to insult a religion? Do you really think that the managers of the Olympic ceremonies would try to do that? Why do you think that everyone is out to get our religion? Victim syndrome is real.....
ReplyEven the name Drag QUEENS is offensive to women as men are not women. Men can't be any type of Queen. Queen is feminine.
ReplyThat's not what we were talking about.
ReplyAll religion should be mocked as it's all made up bullshit.
